Identify problems in egg allergy in children. Eggs are one of the most common types of food allergies, especially in children. Egg allergy usually occur a few minutes to a few hours after eating eggs or foods containing eggs. Egg is one food that is considered to be the cause of allergies. If the child is allergic to chicken eggs, then it most likely will also be responding to all the eggs of birds.
Most people who are allergic to chicken eggs have antibodies that react to one of the four proteins in the egg white (ovomucoid, ovalbumin, ovotransferrin, and lysozyme). Ovomucoid also called Gal d 1, is the most common targets of the immune system attack. Egg yolk contains several potential antigens such as livetin, apovitillin, and vosvetin.
Ovalbumin is a material that has the greatest level of allergenicity of the whole egg protein, as has been shown by an examination of radioallergosorbent test (RAST), and the release of histamine. Ovalbumin relatively unstable in heating, but some people have an allergic reaction when eating the cooked egg. Ovomucoid components may contribute to it. Egg yolks are potentially allergenic relatively lighter than the egg white.
Several studies indicate that lysozyme and ovotransferrin, perhaps one of the allergens are proteins with metal chelating capacity, particularly heavy metals. However, little scientific information is available today on the direct correlation of heavy metals in eggs and egg allergies.
Someone who reacts only to a protein in egg yolk may be able to easily tolerate egg whites, and vice versa. Some people will be allergic to the protein in both egg white and egg yolk. Allergy yolk may be slightly more common in adults. A small number of people who are allergic to eggs will develop an allergy to chicken or other poultry.
There is currently no cure for egg allergy. Most people who are allergic to eggs to avoid eating any egg or egg components. For those with a more serious allergic reaction to eggs, urticaria (hives) and inflammation may occur. In a study of patients outgrew egg allergy at age 17. Children who outgrew the allergy IgE levels tend to peak around the age of one, which then decreases.
Symptoms of egg allergy in children
Each person who an egg allergy has symptoms and characteristics vary. Symptoms can appear reaction quickly a few minutes until the reaction slow several hours after eating eggs or foods containing eggs. Symptoms of egg allergy include rash or itching, cough, asthma, nasal congestion, sneezing, allergic rhinitis, nosebleeds or gastrointestinal symptoms, such as cramps, nausea and vomiting.
Prevent egg allergy
The only way to prevent egg allergy is to avoid the consumption of eggs or products containing egg ingredients. Due to high egg nutrient content should be replaced with other nutrients that are not less good as a beef or dairy cows (those who do not have allergies to cow’s milk). With increasing age the majority of cases will improve despite the small group a prolonged adolescence.
Medicines only temporary and do not solve the problem. Giving desensitization is thought to reduce symptoms, although for food allergies that still does not have strong scientific support.
